Descent from the Finsteraarhorn

Mountain guide: Jonas Schwarz

The Aletsch region is incredibly vast and impressive. So it's worth discovering this area in spring and completing the long routes comfortably on skis. In May, the conditions are perfect for ski touring up there. The tour starts from the Jungfraujoch. The train takes us up here and so we can put on our skis straight away. After a short tour on the Trugberg to get used to the altitude, we spend the night at the Konkordiaplatzhütte and enjoy the view of the big Aletschhorn. Afterwards we cross the Grünhornlücke in breathtaking scenery and reach the Finsteraarhornhütte after an additional summit detour with a cool downhill run. We stay in this hut for three nights and do a varied tour to a different corner of the area each day. On the last day we leave the area via the Galmihorn, from where we enjoy another brilliant sunrise and view of the Finsteraarhorn. On the other side there is the contrast: the summery green Goms. A rapid descent brings us back to spring, as long as there is still snow. We walk down the rest of the way on a comfortable forest road and end the tour days with an ice cream and flip-flops.
