Brunegg and Bishorn

Experience three unique days on a ski tour in a unique environment with high alpine flair and many new experiences. With the support of the mountain railway in St. Luc in the Val d'Anniviers, we gain altitude comfortably on the first day before enjoying a fantastic descent into the Turtmann valley. We then climb up to the Turtmann hut, where we end the day in a cosy atmosphere. The second day takes us over an impressive glacier ascent to the winter summit of the Brunegghorn. After the summit experience, we continue to the Tracuit hut, our base for the last stage. For the crowning finale, we climb the Bishorn on the third day, an easier but no less impressive four-thousand metre peak. The long, enjoyable descent to Zinal finally brings us back to Val d'Anniviers, where we round off the tour with a well-earned final drink.

  • Procedure and meeting place

    • Meeting place

approx. 9.35 a.m. St. Luc, Bella Tola

We meet in St. Luc, Bella Tola, 9.35 am, to coincide with the bus connection.
Here we check the equipment, discuss the day's programme and then set off on the adventure together.

    • Day 1 - Ascent via the Bella Tola to the Turtmannhütte

      800 metres altitude

      1000 Hm

      4 - 5 h

After taking the cable car to save us the first few metres in altitude, we start with an enjoyable descent into the Turtmann Valley. From there we climb up to the Turtmannhütte, where we spend the first night, enjoy dinner together and discuss the day ahead.

This alternative approach via the Bella Tola (3,026 m), the Borter Pass and the Meidtälli is unconventional, but allows us to enjoy varied terrain, great descents and an impressive experience on the very first day.

    • Day 2 - Brunegghorn & ascent to the Tracuit hut

      1500 metres altitude

      800 metres altitude

      6 - 7 h

From the Turtmannhütte we cross in a south-easterly direction through the "Wanne" and climb over the steep Gässi couloir onto the Brunegg glacier. Over the glacier, past crevasse zones, we reach the winter summit of the Brunegghorn (3642 m).

The descent leads in a westerly direction below the Adlerflüe past the confluence of the Brunegg and Turtmann glaciers at approx. 2,800 metres. We then ascend again and reach the Tracuithütte (3256 m), our base for the next day, in the afternoon. The hut impresses with its fantastic views.

    • Day 3 - Bishorn & descent to Zinal

      900 metres altitude

      2000 metres altitude

This day offers everything that makes a classic ski tour: an impressive summit experience and a beautiful long descent. We start from the hut over the gentle Turtmann Glacier and cross the wide, glistening plateau to the east. The view of the surrounding four-thousand-metre peaks and the impressive glacier world opens up with every metre of altitude. The ascent leads through varied terrain, from gentle passages to steeper sections.

The summit area is often blown off and icy. In this case, we switch to crampons and climb the last few metres to the summit of the Bishorn on foot. A breathtaking panorama of the Valais Alps awaits us at the top. An inspiring moment.

The descent initially begins along the ascent route before we glide over the Col de Tracuit into the wide basin of the Torrent du Barmé. After a short ascent, the crowning finale follows: a long, enjoyable descent through forests and along narrow paths down into the valley. Finally, we follow the Navisence river to Zinal, where we round off the tour with a well-earned drink, full of memories of three days of high alpine ski touring adventures.

    • Conclusion

      approx. 3 pm Zinal

We conclude these tour days together in Zinal and start our individual journey home with many new impressions in our luggage.

  • Irene Isler

I really enjoyed being out and about in the mountain and glacier world around the Bishorn with a colourful group. The two mountain guides, Reto and Kevin, carefully prepared us and accompanied us on our adventures, while also giving us plenty of training. Once again, thank you for everything! Irene Isler

I really enjoyed being out and about in the mountains and glaciers with a colourful group. We were carefully prepared and adventurously accompanied by the two mountain guides, Reto and Kevin, who also provided us with a great deal of training. Thank you for everything! Irene
  • Franziska

Many thanks to Reto and Kevin for the three great tour days. You were great people and guided us competently through the varied tour. Thank you also for the valuable tips on ski touring techniques and route planning. I would be happy to book another tour with Bergschaft.
  • Martina Nussbaumer

We had a wonderful time in the Valais mountains! A fun and very harmonious group and as a topping 2 mountain guides who gave us a lot of safety, showed us lots of tips and tricks on the mountain and integrated us into the tour planning! Thank you so much for this wonderful and educational time out! I will come on a tour with you again any time!
  • Jeroen Flinterman

On our three-day tour with Reto and Kevin to the Bishorn and Brunegg (Turtmanhütte + Vabane de Tracuit) we had a lot of fun. For me as a Dutchman (Holland/Netherlands) doing a longer tour than one day, it was fantastic. Both tour guides were very entertaining, took their job seriously and included us in the tour planning! Thanks a lot guys. Our group was above average in skiing and ascent (although I am a beginner in ascent). Thanks to the good tips, I was able to find my own rhythm and keep up with the groups. I will definitely come back to you for another tour and can recommend everyone to go to Bergschaft and try this fantastic ski tour.
  • Melanie Tinzl-Zechner

We would like to thank Hannes, Simon and Bergschaft for the great tour to the Brunegghorn (winter summit) and the Bishorn. It was a great three days of ski touring and we look forward to the next tours with you!
