In an imposing glacier world on the Tödi, the highest mountain in the Glarus Alps.
The Tödi, with its striking silhouette, forms the impressive end of the Glarus Linthal. The ski tour to this summit is one of the most traditional routes in Switzerland and is surrounded by many legends and tales. This long high-altitude ski tour rewards you with a unique mountain experience.
The ascent as well as the descent, under steep walls and imposing glaciers, stretches over 10 kilometres and 2900 vertical metres through wild valleys and perfect ski slopes.

Planned route
- From Tierfehd along the forest road to Hintersand (1300m). Then along the summer trail via Tentiwang and Bifertenalpeli to Fridolinshütte 2111m.

After a hearty breakfast, the headlamp is put on and the challenging ski tour up the Tödi begins. From the Fridolinshütte, the route leads in a south-westerly direction over the moraine to the Bifertenfirn. The ascent includes two challenging ice fractures; depending on the conditions, skis can be used or crampons are required. After the crevasse zone, the Bifertenfirn stretches out like a glistening carpet. Once you have conquered the "Wailing Wall", you can look forward to the nearby summit! The summit cross and the breathtaking view reward your efforts. The descent of over 2,800 metres in altitude along the ascent route challenges your thighs once again. The Tödi is a real adventure!

Requirements
- Mastering the ski touring technique with its basics (skins, hairpin turns).
- Safe downhill technique in open terrain and in different types of snow.
- You have first experience with ice axe and crampons.
- Fitness for ski tours of around 1500 metres at a normal pace (~350-400 metres/hour) (summit day: 1500 metres).
- Fitness for a 2400 metre descent in different types of snow.
- In addition, there are sections where we carry the skis and trudge through the snow.

- Takes place with up to 6 guests per mountain guide.

How difficult is the ski tour on the Tödi?
The ski tour on the Tödi is considered challenging and requires experience in ski touring. The route includes steep passages, some of which are tackled with crampons and skis tied on, as well as glacier crossings with large crevasses.
What equipment is recommended for the Tödi ski tour?
It is strongly recommended that you carry full equipment for high alpine terrain, including avalanche equipment, crampons, rope and appropriate clothing. For the ski tour you need:
- Standard ski touring equipment plus
- Crampons,
- Pimples,
- Climbing harness.
The mountain guide also has the following with him:
- Rope and glacier material
- Rescue equipment incl. 1st aid kit
- Orientation means.

How long does a ski tour on the Tödi usually take?
The duration of the ski tour on the Tödi depends on various factors, including the chosen route, the weather conditions and the experience of the group. It is advisable to plan 3 days for the tour. This allows you to arrive on the first day and tackle Tödi flexibly over the next two days. This also leaves room for an acclimatisation tour beforehand.
Are there huts or accommodation along the route?
Yes, there are several huts on the Tödi. Normally you spend the night in the Fridolinshütte. You can also use the Claridenhütte or the Planura Hut stay overnight.
Are there alternative routes or descents from the Tödi ski tour?
As an alternative to the normal route via the Bifertenfirn, there is the option of coming from the Surselva via the Porta da Gliems or descending. The Tödi west face is more challenging and an exciting route.
