The Tour du Ciel is one of the most impressive ski crossings in the Swiss Alps. Starting in Zermatt, it leads northwards from hut to hut between the really big four-thousand-metre peaks and over their glaciers. Again and again we cross steep cols, firn ridges or descend through small couloirs. A challenging ski tour in impressive surroundings! We tackle this project together and experience the high mountain world to the full!
Meeting point and tour schedule
- Meeting point: 9.15 Zermatt train station
- Conclusion: approx. 15.00 in St. Niklaus
Tour itinerary:
- Day: We start comfortably with the Breithorn from Zermatt and can acclimatise, get to know each other and get to know each other. We take the cable car from Zermatt to the Klein Matterhorn and do the Breithorn and enjoy a long descent. A climb leads us to the Schönbielhütte.
- Day: A long ascent takes us over the Hohwäng Glacier to Col Durand. Here we enjoy a magnificent view of the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa massif until we slide or descend more steeply on the other side. Depending on the conditions, we may need a fixed rope here. We continue with a spectacular descent over the rugged Glacier Durand and a short ascent to the Cabane du Mountet. A first full day of touring full of impressive first impressions.
- Day: Today we head via Blanc de Moming to Cabanne d'Arpitettaz. An impressive day on which we strap on our skis over the "Arrete du Blanc" snow ridge and then enjoy a very long descent over the glacier.
- Day 2: Over a small pass to the Cabanne du Tracuit and from there up to the Bishorn. From the Bishorn we enjoy the unique view of the Weisshorn and the surrounding mountains. In a racy descent back to the Cab. du Tracuit.
- Day: Another highlight! The day starts with a descent over the Turtmann Glacier past the Turtmann Hut. From here we cross two small passes where we put on our skis both times to get up. Small couloirs or gullies lead down the other side. Finally, we reach the Wasuhorn from where we tackle a long descent to Jungu. A really varied day. In Jungu we take the small cable car to get back to the main valley.
Requirements
- Mastering the ski touring technique with its basics (skins, hairpin turns).
- Experience with crampons and in steeper terrain.
- Safe downhill technique in open terrain and in different types of snow.
- Stamina for ski tours of around 1200-1500 metres at a normal pace (~300-350m/h).
- Splitboarder:inside only if very experienced and very fit.

- Takes place with 4 guests per mountain guide.
