Route sequence
- Day 1: Realp via Schafberg to the Albert Heim hut: 1050 metres up, 100 metres down
We meet in Realp and climb over the Schafberg, our first summit, to the Albert Heim Hütte. Roman from the Albert Heim Hütte provides us with great hospitality here. - Day 2: Albert-Heim Hütte - Lochberg - Göscheneralp: 750 metres up and 1700 metres down
First magnificent crossing over the Lochberg to the Göscheneralp. After a varied ascent into the winter gap and a short ski-carrying passage, we reach the Lochberg. After a long descent, first over a small glacier, we reach the Göscheneralpsee and shortly afterwards the Göscheneralp. We spend the night in the warmly run Gwüest guesthouse with Seraina and Dan. - Day 3: Göscheneralp - Sustenlimi / Sustenhorn - Sustenpass: 1700 metres up, 1500 metres down
A longer section awaits us today. We walk along the Göscheneralpsee, have a coffee in the Chelenalphütte and reach the huge glacier of the Sustenhorn. If we still have breath left, we climb the Gwächtenhorn or Sustenhorn. On the Gwächtenhorn in particular, we have the opportunity for a magnificent, somewhat steeper descent through the glacier. We ski down over the Steingletscher to the Sustenpass. We choose one of the numerous variants to experience untracked terrain and impressive, solitary nature. We stay at the hotel in the Alpine Centre near the Steingletscher on the Susten Pass. Here we also refresh ourselves with a shower 😀 - Day 4: Sustenpass - Fünfingerstock - Sustlihütte: 1200 metres up and 900 metres down
After the long passage from the Sustenhorn, we have a somewhat more leisurely round today. We climb up the Obertal valley and reach the summit of the Fünffingerstock between the steep rock faces. An impressive descent over the glaciers of the Sustli area leads us to the Sustlihütte. This is beautifully situated on a sun terrace. The new hut warden couple, Petra and Remo, formerly from the Chelenalphütte, provide a great service. We enjoy our last evening here and look forward to tomorrow's final section. - Day 5: Sustlihütte - Grassen - Engelberg: 650 metres up, 1800 metres down
The last day, little ascent and lots of descent! We make a leisurely ascent of 650 metres to Grassen and from here ski down the wide slopes of Grassen via the Firnalpeli glacier to Engelberg. Another magnificent descent to round off the day. We arrive in Engelberg happy, tired, proud and full of new shared experiences.
